Thanks to everyone that joined us this morning at 8:00 for the NWACA 2008 4th of July Parade for all the festivities!
Kayla, Jared, Gemma, our newest volunteers Bonnie and Carolyn Devany (who will be bringing Buckshot to events when they can), Gil, myself, and our granddaughter Misha showed up bright and early Friday morning.
The parade was a bit unorganized this year but we had a lot of fun – and the minis were treated to watermelon! Yum! We made many new contacts so keep your fingers crossed that some will pan out.
I’d like to share one wonderful moment Gil and I had that reminds us why we are happy to bring the minis into the community:
MasterCard pulled Gil to an older gentleman sitting in a wheelchair (we were trying not to break parade formation this time). The gentleman was probably in his 70’s and was blind. MasterCard laid his majestic head in the older man’s lap, and he exclaimed, “What’s this? A dog?” And Gil and I both explained, “No, he’s a little horse.” The man’s head jumped up, and I gently laid his hand
on MasterCard’s mane. He stroked the mane and said “Can you come back?” And we said, “Yes, we will bring the minis to you soon.” We gave his wife our business card and rejoined the parade.
I will definitely take the minis to this older man. And that is what this is all about – marvel, smiles, laughter, and a healing touch to those who need something extra to brighten their day.
Mini thanks again to all who came out — I hope that everyone in our wonderful group of Mini Friends has a safe and fun 4th of July weekend!
